Why don’t hints in DocLinks work the way you want them to?
If I send an email, which contains a doclink in it, why isn't the hint honoured and the database opened on the server I linked from? Now I know, that if the user has a bookmark to a difference replica, that takes precedence and I am ok with that. But, when this is the first time a user is accessing the database why doesn't the hint take precedence? What happens here, is that the client queries the Domain Catalog, finds several replicas listed and picks the top most one based on an alpha sort!! Which usually ends up being a server on the other side of the Atlantic - utterly useless!!
According to the documentation, it is meant to take into account system availability statistics, but I'm not so sure about that! If it did, I would expect it know which server is closest based on ping response times. It really does not need to be that clever, or it really needs to be a lot more clever - take you pick!
It seems to me, the only sure fire way to force a user to a particular server is using the notes://servername syntax instead, which is a bit of a pain!
