What´s in my fridge?
Yuengling
LagerFor the non native Philadelphians out there - this is pronounced ying-ling. It is brewed in Pottsville, about 100 miles NW of Philly.
Although it is a lager, it is not a lager in the Heineken/Carling style of beer. It is a darker in colour than those beers, more of a deep amber, but certainly is carbonated in the same way. Most definitely not an ale! This is one of those beers I don't drink for a while, then get some, and am quite surprised by it's mild hoppy flavour then I go off it again. It's most redeeming feature is it costs - quite cheap, about $19 for a crate of 24. Buying beer by the crate in Pennsylvania is something you get used to. There are not many other options, courtesy of some of the craziest licensing laws I've ever come across!
The brewers of this beer, like many other retailers in the general Philadelphia area, claim to be historic! Their particular claim to fame being; the oldest brewery in America! - estd. 1829???
Overall, an ok beer, good for a party, with a very unoffensive flavour to it (almost a bit sweet)
Next door neighbour rating (Light beers only): Just Passable. Which allows you to appreciate it's much more middle of the brewing world's road.
