This sucks
09/21/06 Update: I have now had the surgery and it went as expected. I have a hole the size of a dime in the back of my heel area and am back on my crutches for two weeks. I have to have the 'wound' cared for at the hospital's wound centre twice a week and have postponed my physical therapy until I have healed. This really, really sucks!
I just went for a check up with my surgeon today, and found out that I need to go back into the hospital tomorrow for surgery to address some infection that has been lingering.
95% of my scar has been healing really well, but I have one spot that has been infected. Two weeks of antibiotics and daily alcohol rubs have not helped. So rather than wait for the thing to burst and risk damaging the graft, I need to have it operated on.
So, I now have to go back into hospital tomorrow for the procedure, which will require general anaesthesia and an overnight stay. This was the last thing I expected today!
On the plus side, the actual healing and strength of my heel is ahead of schedule and is looking good. I have just begun physical therapy and am not using the crutches anymore. I just hope the operation tomorrow goes well, and that the infection is then a thing of the past, and it does not set my recovery back at all.
