Achilles Tendon - post surgery
Just over 1 week has now passed since I had surgery on my Achilles tendon. The surgeon, assures me the operation went well, and I have a follow up appointment with him in a few days.
I ended up staying overnight in the hospital and being discharged mid afternoon on Saturday. But only after a stupendous battle to empty my bladder! The nurse was not going to be satisfied until I did!
I now have a much larger, rigid cast, and will have it for the next 6/8 weeks. For the immediate few days after the surgery the pain was quite severe - and I hovered around in a pain killer induced stupor! By about Wednesday, the worst of the pain passed, and I was able to cut back on the Percocet. On Thursday, I was finally able to drag myself out of bed and rest/work from the sofa downstairs instead. As this is the hottest week of the year so far, getting downstairs to cooler air was a boon!
This last weekend was the first time I got out of the house all week, and started to get mobile again. Sunday my muscles were aching again!
Today was my first day back in the office. All went reasonably well, but my calf began to swell up in the car ride home. More rest and elevation was needed tonight!
Most of the pain has gone now, just the occasional twinge and occasional throb. Hopefully things will go well with the review with the surgeon, and I can cross 1 week off the 6/8 weeks of recovery.
