What’s in my Fridge?

Samuel Adams

It's been a while since I've bought Sam Adams for the fridge.  I used to get it quite frequently (I would still buy a pint in the pub and enjoy it), but it fell out of favour with me.  I prefer to by the mix pack crates of beer, so I can sample a few different styles of the beer.  However, the last time I bought a mix pack of Sam Adams it included their "light" option.  And, no matter what the marketing departments might say to convince you, light beer sucks!  And, the Sam Adams offering was no different!

So, it was with some reluctance that I decided to give it another whirl.  But, I can say I was pleased with the outcome.  This crate comes with:
Boston Lager, Boston Ale (in case you hadn't guessed - they are Boston [the American one] based!), Scotch Ale, Black Lager, Brown Ale and Hefeweizen.  These are all great beers.  Especially at this time of year, when it is cold and dark outside!

If I had to pick one, then I think it would have to be the Boston Ale, which is slightly smoother than the Boston Lager - but it is a close thing.  The Scotch Ale and Black Lager are both very dark (porter like) but are not too heavy.  Leaving the Brown Ale to fill the gap.  The Hefeweizen has the trademark cloudy appearance of a wheat beer, and tastes excellent!

I can really recommend this crate of beer.  They also have a good web site (Boddingtons take note!), with a variety of information and Mac/PC downloads.

Next Door Neighbour rating: I've not offered this one.  I know what the answer will be, especially in light of the fact that they just bought a crate of Yuengling Light for New Year's Eve - which sucked!
